The Herui Nome is in the 5th Nome (or District) in the Northern portion of Upper Egypt. Upper Egypt is in the Southern half of Egypt, below the Delta region (which is known as Lower Egypt). It is right next to the Forth Nome where the great city of Waset (Thebes) is located. The 5th Nome of Upper Egypt contains four cities, the largest and most cosmopolitan of which is

GEBTU.

The city of Gebtu is the lovely capitol of the Herui Nome and features a prominent and beautiful temple precinct. Here, in the walled enclosure for the temples (each with their own courtyards and sacred lakes), is a dual temple with sanctuaries for both

the fertility god MIN and to

the goddess ISIS.

The god Horus (Heru) lends his name to the Herui Nome, and he has a large temple in Gebtu as well. The city also contains

a Chapel to the god OSIRIS and numerous shrines to lesser Netjers.

The two falcons on the Herui Nome standard as shown below was interpreted to represent the gods Horus and Min, and this double falcon symbol was also associated with Gebtu.

Numerous fountains, villas and public plazas also made Gebtu a lovely city to live and work in.

The other cities in the Herui Nome are

GESY, NUBT, and MADU.

Each City of the Herui Nome has its own Temple complex where local deities are worshipped.

In Nubt, there is a temple to the god Seth. The god Montu as well as Harpocrates, or Horus the child are worshipped in Madu. In Gesy the god Haroeris, or Horus the Elder and Heket, a goddess of fertility represented by the image of a frog are worshipped.

In addition, the WADI HAMMAMAT road runs through this Nome, making it vital to Kemet's thriving trade with other lands. Many trading caravans and mining expeditions set out from Gebtu and Gesy at one time.

The Wadi Hammamat Road led to the Red Sea, a beautiful place to go to relax and enjoy the surrounding beauty and serenity in a resort style atmosphere.

There is also a very large and busy BAZAAR in Gebtu where a wide variety of goods and services are offered for sale.

The Herui Nome borders the Forth Nome of Upper Kemet where Waset (also known as Thebes) is located. Thebes was a great capitol city of all Egypt at various times in Egypt?s long history.
